CS2 Viewmodel Generator

CS2 viewmodel generator with a live preview: set viewmodel_fov and X, Y, Z offsets, pick a preset or left hand, and copy the console or autoexec line.

How to use the viewmodel generator

  1. Pick a preset or move the sliders. The preview shows which way each change moves the weapon.
  2. Choose right or left hand. Tick the box if you want a key that swaps hands mid-game.
  3. Press Copy console line and paste it into the CS2 console. Turn the console on first under Settings, Game, Enable Developer Console.
  4. To keep the setup, paste the autoexec lines into autoexec.cfg in Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo\cfg and add +exec autoexec.cfg to your Steam launch options. You can also download viewmodel.cfg, put it in the same folder and add exec viewmodel to your autoexec.

Already have a viewmodel? Paste your lines under Load your current commands. The tool reads them in order like the game does, clamps values that are out of range and converts the old cl_righthand command.

The preview is a generic rifle drawn from your numbers, not the exact CS2 model, so check the final look in game.

What each viewmodel command does

Command Range What it does
viewmodel_fov 54 to 68 Field of view of the weapon. Higher values make it look smaller and farther away.
viewmodel_offset_x -2.5 to 2.5 Moves the weapon left (negative) or right (positive).
viewmodel_offset_y -2 to 2 Moves the weapon back toward you (negative) or forward (positive).
viewmodel_offset_z -2 to 2 Moves the weapon down (negative) or up (positive).
viewmodel_presetpos 1 or 2 Loads the Desktop (1) or Classic (2) preset.
cl_prefer_lefthanded 0 or 1 Holds weapons in the right (0) or left (1) hand.
switchhands Key bind Swaps hands until you press the key again.

The ranges match the CS2 command references at totalcsgo, csdb.gg and setup.gg. The preset values and the handedness commands were checked in the CS2 game files in November 2026.

CS2 presets: Desktop and Classic

CS2 has two built-in viewmodel positions. Set them under Settings, Game, Item, Viewmodel Position, or with viewmodel_presetpos:

Preset Command FOV X Y Z
Desktop viewmodel_presetpos 1 68 2.5 0 -1.5
Classic viewmodel_presetpos 2 60 1 1 -1

The Couch preset from CS:GO is gone. Many guides still list 2 as Couch and 3 as Classic, but CS2 only accepts 1 and 2. The Couch and Minimal buttons in this tool are manual setups made with the offset commands:

  • Couch: FOV 54, X 0, Y -2, Z -2. The weapon is as large as CS2 allows and sits lower and closer to the middle.
  • Minimal: FOV 68, X 2.5, Y -2, Z -2. Every value is at the limit that pushes the weapon into the bottom-right corner.

Choosing a preset replaces your custom values, so run your own lines after it.

Left-handed viewmodel in CS2

Set cl_prefer_lefthanded 1, or choose Left under Settings, Game, Item, Preferred Viewmodel Left/Right Handedness. To swap hands during a round, bind a key to switchhands in the generator, or set the Switch Viewmodel Left/Right Hand key in the keyboard and mouse settings. The CS:GO command cl_righthand does nothing in CS2.

Old commands that do nothing in CS2

These CS:GO commands still appear in old configs, but they are not in the current CS2 client: cl_righthand, viewmodel_recoil and the view bob commands such as cl_bobamt_lat, cl_bobamt_vert, cl_bobcycle and cl_bob_lower_amt. The generator only writes commands that exist in CS2.

Tips

  • Start from a preset and change one value at a time, so you can tell what each change does.
  • Test it in an offline match with bots before you play ranked, and switch through your weapons while you do.
  • Keep your lines in autoexec.cfg, so you can restore them in one step after changing presets or resetting settings.

Frequently asked questions

What are the viewmodel presets in CS2?

CS2 has two: Desktop (viewmodel_presetpos 1) and Classic (viewmodel_presetpos 2). Desktop uses FOV 68 with offsets 2.5, 0 and -1.5, and Classic uses FOV 60 with offsets 1, 1 and -1. Any other position needs the offset commands.

How do I get a left-handed viewmodel in CS2?

Type cl_prefer_lefthanded 1 in the console, or pick Left under Settings, Game, Item, Preferred Viewmodel Left/Right Handedness. The generator adds it when you choose Left hand. The old cl_righthand command no longer works.

Why does viewmodel_presetpos 3 not work in CS2?

CS2 only has two presets, 1 for Desktop and 2 for Classic. In CS:GO, 2 was Couch and 3 was Classic, which is why older guides list three. Use the offset commands, or the Couch button in the generator, for a couch-style setup.

How do I make my viewmodel smaller in CS2?

Set viewmodel_fov to 68, the maximum. Moving viewmodel_offset_x toward 2.5 and viewmodel_offset_z toward -2 also pushes the weapon further into the corner. The Minimal preset sets all of these at once.

Why does my viewmodel keep resetting?

Picking a Viewmodel Position in the settings menu, or running viewmodel_presetpos, replaces your custom values with the preset. Keep your commands in autoexec.cfg and run them again after changing that setting.

Does the viewmodel affect hitboxes or where bullets go?

No. It only changes where the weapon model is drawn on your screen. Your shots still go where your crosshair points.
